Lohagarh Fort

Built by the Jat rulers in the 18th century, Lohagarh Fort is one of the finest architecture in Rajasthan. It was in fact named as the Lohagarh Fort, or Iron Fort, as British rulers were never able to conquer it. This fort is one of the strongest castle ever made in history. Entry into the fort can be done through two gates: Ashtdhaatu (eight-metalled) to the north and Chowburja (four-pillared) to the south.

Some interesting monuments inside the fort include the Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas, Kothi Khas, Moti Mahal, and towers like Jawahar Burj, Fateh Burj, Mahal Khas, Kamra Mahal and Purana Mahal. Lohagarh Fort houses a government museum as well, which exhibits various armours and weapons. The fort stands proudly, as a living testimony to the chivalry and courage of the Jat rulers of Bharatpur. The fort is surrounded by a moat, which used to be filled with water to ward off enemy attacks.
